Papa Gelasio I
Papa Gelasio I alikuwa Papa kuanzia tarehe 1 Machi 492 hadi kifo chake tarehe 21 Novemba 496[1]. Alikuwa Papa wa tatu mwenye asili ya Afrika kaskazini.[2][3][4]
Alimfuata Papa Felix III akafuatwa na Papa Anastasio II.
Alidai utiifu kwake kutoka kwa Wakristo wa Magharibi na Mashariki vilevile na kutetea kwa nguvu imani sahihi hata kuchangia mabishano, ingawa alikuwa na mahusiano mazuri na watawala Waostrogoti waliokuwa Waario[5].
Mwandishi mahiri[6], kati ya Mapapa wa karne za kwanza, ndiye aliyeandika zaidi. Mwaka 494, aliandika barua Duo sunt kwa kaisari Anastasius I kuhusu mahusiano ya Kanisa na Dola; barua hiyo aliathiri siasa kwa karibu miaka elfu.[7] Pia zimetufikia barua zake nyingine zaidi ya 100[8]. Maandishi mengine yalitajwa kuwa ya kwake ingawa si kweli; lengo lilikuwa kuyatia maanani zaidi.
Tangu kale anaheshimiwa kama mtakatifu.
