Traditional and Modern Health Practitioners Together against AIDS
Traditional and Modern Health Practitioners Together against AIDS (THETA) (kwa Kiswahili: Waganga wa Jadi na wa Kisasa Pamoja dhidi ya UKIMWI) ni shirika lisilo la kiserikali nchini Uganda ambalo linakuza ushirikiano kati ya waganga wa kienyeji na wataalamu wa tiba kuzuia maambukizi ya VVU / UKIMWI na kutoa huduma kwa wagonjwa wenye VVU.[1] Ilionekana kuwa juhudi ya kwanza muhimu barani Afrika kuwashirikisha waganga wa jadi dhidi ya VVU / UKIMWI.[2]

[hariri | hariri chanzo]THETA ilianzishwa mnamo 1992 na progamu ya Kitaifa ya Kudhibiti Ukimwi, Tume ya UKIMWI ya Uganda, Madini Sans Frontieres (Madaktari Wasio na Mipaka), na Shirika la Msaada la UKIMWI (TASO).[1][3] Ilianzisha programu mbili: 1) ufanisi wa utafiti wa dawa asili katika kutibu dalili za UKIMWI na 2) ufanisi wa utafiti wa kufundisha waganga wa jadi kuwa waalimu wa magonjwa ya zinaa / UKIMWI na washauri.[4] Kufikia mnamo mwaka 1998, THETA ilikuwa imewafundisha waganga 125 katika kuzuia VVU / UKIMWI kwa kipindi cha miaka mitano, kulingana na tathmini ya UNAIDS.[5][2] Wakati wa mahojiano, Daktari Dorothy Balaba, mkurugenzi wa zamani na afisa wa matibabu, alielezea:
"Tunataka kuongeza uwezo wao .... Kwa kweli, waganga huleta ujuzi wao wenyewe mezani, na kuna mengi ambayo wafanyikazi wa matibabu wanaweza kujifunza kutoka kwao. Dawa ya kawaida ni ya dalili, lakini huduma ya waganga wa jadi ni ya jumla katika maumbile."[1]
