Mititi au vilio ni ndege mbuai wa jenasi mbalimbali katika familia Strigidae. Kwa kawaida ndege hawa ni wadogo kuliko bundi (sm 16-30) na wana rangi ya kahawa au kijivu pamoja na madoadoa ambayo yanafanana na gome la miti. Kwa kawaida jike ni mkubwa kuliko dume. Mititi hula wadudu hasa lakini watambaazi, wanyama na ndege wadogo pia na hata nyungunyungu na amfibia. Huwinda usiku kwa kawaida. Jike huyataga mayai 2-6 katika shimo lililoachwa na ndege au mnyama mwingine, lakini mara nyingi kinda moja tu akua.
