Kitabu cha John Locke "Baadhi ya Mawazo Kuhusu Elimu" kiliandikwa mwaka 1693 na bado elimu ya jadi huonyesha vipaumbele katika Nchi za Magharibi.

Falsafa ya elimu ni utafiti wa kifalsafa juu ya kusudi, utaratibu na ubora wa elimu, kwa kuchunguza ufafanuzi, malengo na maana ya elimu kwa jumla au ya mtazamo mmojawapo juu yake.

Falsafa ya elimu kwa kawaida huonwa kama tawi la falsafa na la elimu vilevile.
