Maisha

Lynn Freed alizaliwa na kukulia Durban, Afrika Kusini. Alienda New York akiwa mwanafunzi wa shahada ya pili akipokea shahada ya uzamili na shahada ya uzamivu ya Fasihi ya kiingereza kutoka chuo kikuu cha Colombia.

Baada ya kuhamia San Francisco , aliandika riwaya yake ya kwanza Heart Change (iliyochapishwa tena kama Friends of the Family). Tokea hapo, amechapisha riwaya nyingine sita: Home Ground, The Bungalow, The Mirror, House of Women, The Servants' Quarters na The Last Laugh. Ana mkusanyiko wa hadithi fupi,The Curse of the Appropriate Man na mikusanyiko miwili ya insha: Reading, Writing & Leaving Home: Life on the Page na The Romance of Elsewhere.

Tuzo

Mwaka 2002, Lynn Freed alipokea tuzo ya Hadithi za kufikirika ya Katherine Anne Porter kutoka American Academy of Arts and Letters. Pia alipokea ushirika na ruzuku kutoka National Endowment for the Arts, The Guggenheim Foundation, The Camargo Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, na the Lannan Foundation, na the Bogliasco Foundation. Mwaka 1986, alishinda tuzo ‘the Bay Area Book Reviewers' Award for Fiction, na hadithi fupi zake zilipendekezwa kama hadithi bora Zaidi Marekani na tuzo ya "O'Henry Awards: Prize Stories".Mwaka 2011 alishinda tuzo ya O. Henry Award|PEN/O. Henry Prize kwa hadithi fupi yake ya "Sunshine," iliyochapishwa kwenye gazeti la simulizi na mwaka 2015 alishinda tena tuzo ya O. Henry Award|PEN/O. Henry Prize kwa hadithi fupi ya ,"The Way Things Are Going", iliyochapishwa kwenye gazeti la Harper's.
