BIOGRAPHY

NARAN Surenjav is a famous Mongolian pop rock-singer, pop diva with a powerful and uniquely earthy voice. Naran became the “Voice of Mongolia” on big international stages for her talent to immediately engage and awe large crowds of every nationality. She has won the hearts of Mongolians and for that she was awarded Meritorious Actress of Mongolia. Her untamed free spirit, tireless labor and grit to overcome countless barriers created today’s NARAN is a powerful singer with a commanding stage presence. She released albums in English, Russian, Chinese and Japanese in addition to her native Mongolian and is open to sing in any requested language. NARAN composed music for her most popular songs, sang at countless shows, events and concerts, and released numerous solo albums including DVD collections, hit songs and performed many solo concerts thus far in her illustrious career. She has collaborated with many foreign artists.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Naran is from the town of Murun located in the forested northern part of Mongolia with its fresh and deep Khuvsgul Lake, the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia. Her upbringing was filled with warmth and happy memories. Her father, Surenjav, was her greatest influencer. Naran says “My father is my hero, a great example of how men should be.” Naran grew up during the 70s and 80s when learning a foreign language other than Russian and following Western pop culture and music were forbidden. Naran’s yearning for freedom to sing what she wanted to sing, her love for international pop culture and her hunger to sing in multiple languages was something that wasn’t inherited or taught. It came from deep within her.

CAREER

Her career as a singer started in 1992 when she participated and won a French song contest. Her winning prize was a Famous Brand’s stereo system, which was very rare to possess in that times. Naran desperately wanted to win that stereo and excitedly participated in the contest. She practiced day and night to win her desired prize. Quote - “When I walked onto the stage I felt and knew - this is what I wanted to do in my life and dedicated all my efforts to become a singer!” From that moment she realized that more than anything else in life she wanted to become a singer rather than an actress. It was a hard transitioning time from a controlled economy to a free market economy and a democracy. This period of time were very hard, no one knew how to survive in this kind of new civilization. That time making ends meet for Mongolian actors, actresses and performers was a huge challenge. That’s why Naran chose to be a singer and perform in foreign languages as well as Mongolian, for bigger audiences and the fulfilment of her dreams.

Naran can sing from a low husky voice to falsetto high notes. When she was participated   ‘MOUNTAINFILM FESTIVAL-2006’ in Telluride, Colorado an American fan expressed that listening her with eyes closed was like listening Tina Turner. Naran has that kind of voice and on-stage energy and never copied anyone else’s style.  “I just want to be me” says Naran.

In an interview Naran once said “Delivering a song to someone’s heart is like archery. He bow is the music, the arrow is the lyrics and archer is the singer. The perfect combination of the three goes straight to the listener’s heart!”

Naran was invited to perform in a multi-cultural exchange project in China, with famous Chinese singers, in big festivals and numerous concerts, which continued through the decade. Her final performance was at the ”Asian Night-亚洲之夜”concert with Asian stars. It was part of the festivities of the Beijing Olympics of 2008.

TV SHOWS

Naran was invited to participate in worldwide famous TV Shows such as: "Your face sounds familiar-2022" ‘Яг Түүн шиг-2022’ - Winner

To participate in this contest show Naran had to imitate actual worldwide celebrities’ voice, face, character and stage performances to match their exact images. Through this contest she showed and sang as 10 different celebrities to great applause. No one imagined she could perform in so many different voices and behaviors that exactly matched those celebrities. Naran’s on stage acting and singing demonstrated how she could transform to different people in very short period, and she won in this contest. After this show fans discovered that Naran was much more than a singer and now they realize and appreciate that she is a great performing actress. Naran was invited to become a judge in a BBC’s “Dancing With The Stars” show. The audience was astonished by Naran’s soft, feminine dancing skills that that were behind her husky voice and strong personality. The audience was surprised by her knowledge of dance techniques. The biggest surprise of the show was Naran appeared on the screen without her trademark sunglasses. 

She became an artist at the Sennheiser brand from 2018. https://en-de.sennheiser.com/artists-naran-surenjav Sennheiser is world leading brand in microphones, headphones and big stage performance equipment. Most of the World’s top singers choose Sennheiser microphones for their performances. In 2018 Sennheiser brand chose Naran as the first and only Mongolian artist to become a Sennheiser’s artist and represent their brand.

CHARITY WORK

Naran regularly performs at charity concerts and donates to charity projects. As a member of Rotary she initiated a plan called DECO-1,2,3. In 2015, 2017, 2020 she created, donated money for and hosted a reality TV show called DECO for Green Earth. The show demonstrated how to recycle items at home and involved environmental decor, protecting Mother Nature and reducing pollution. By this DECO 1,2,3 charity show she helped a family in the area whose house was flooded and went underwater to renovate the destroyed areas and houses. She also helped to renovate a secondary school teacher’s room in an old school building. Tsunami aid "Kizuna-Earth Concert" In 2011 struck a massive Tsunami in Japan that shocked the whole world, destroyed many lives and left countless many people homeless. Naran was invited to perform at the ‘Kizuna-Earth Concert’ for a tsunami charity in Saitama Super Arena. Tokyo, Japan, December 28, 2011.
