Joel Wiliam Makyao (born June 20, 1990) is a Tanzanian educator and researcher known for his work in adult education and sustainable agriculture. He has taught in various schools across the Kilimanjaro and Songwe regions and has conducted academic research on how community-based adult education contributes to sustainable farming practices. Early Life and Education Makyao was born in Marera, Mwika North, in Moshi District, Tanzania. He attended Marera Primary School from 1997 to 2004, followed by Umbwe Secondary School (2005–2008) and Msufini High School (2009–2011), all located in the Kilimanjaro region. He pursued higher education at the University of Dar es Salaam, earning a Bachelor of Arts with Education (BaEd) in 2014 and later a Master of Arts with Education (MaEd) in 2023. Career Makyao has worked as a teacher in multiple schools within Kilimanjaro and Songwe, contributing to the development of education in both urban and rural communities. His academic focus centres on adult education and its role in improving agricultural practices. His master's research, titled "The Role of Integrated Community-Based Adult Education on Enhancing Sustainable Agriculture in Same District", examined how adult learning programmes can empower local communities to adopt environmentally sustainable farming methods. Achievements Makyao participated in the Adult Education Day at the University of Dar es Salaam, where he attended and engaged with fellow educators and scholars. Community Engagement Outside of academia, Makyao is an advocate for environmental conservation. He actively promotes tree planting and community awareness campaigns focused on protecting natural resources.
