Mama Teresa wa Kolkata (26 Agosti 1910 – 5 Septemba 1997) alikuwa mtawa wa Kanisa Katoliki aliyejulikana kimataifa hasa kutokana na huduma yake kwa watu maskini katika mji wa Kolkata (Uhindi) iliyofanya apatiwe tuzo ya Nobel ya Amani.
Tarehe 19 Oktoba 2003 alitangazwa na Papa Yohane Paulo II kuwa mwenye heri. Bado muujiza wa pili unahitajika ili atangaze kuwa mtakatifu.
Maisha
Alizaliwa tarehe 26 Agosti 1910 mjini Skopje katika familia ya Waalbania akaitwa Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu.
Alipofikia umri wa miaka 18 alijiunga na shirika la Masista wa Loreto huko Ireland na mwaka 1929 alitumwa Uhindi afundishe kwenye shule ya masista mjini Kolkata alipoendelea kuwa mkuu wa shule.
Aliguswa sana na hali ya mafukara nje ya shule akajisikia wito wa kuwasaidia na kuishi pamoja nao.
Kwa kibali cha wakuu wa shirika lake na wa Kanisa mwaka 1948 alitoka jumuiya ya Loreto akaanzisha maisha duni kati ya wakazi wa mitaa ya vibanda.
Alianzisha shule lakini baada ya muda alitambua umuhimu wa kuzingatia zaidi hali ya watu waliokuwa wagonjwa na hatimaye kufa katika mitaa hiyo.
Mwaka 1950 alianzisha shirika la Masista Wamisionari wa Upendo ambalo mwanzoni lilikuwa jumuiya ndogo ya masista 12 tu.
Kati ya kazi zao za kwanza ilikuwa nyumba kwa watu mahututi; masista waliwakusanya wakiwa wamelala barabarani na kuwapeleka katika nyumba hiyo walipopata dawa, chakula na usaidizi mwingine.
Shirika lilikua haraka sana; hadi leo kuna masista 4,000 kwa jumla katika matawi mengi kote duniani.
Wanaendesha nyumba kwa watoto yatima, wagonjwa wa UKIMWI, wenye ukoma, walemavu, walevi, wenye kichaa na kila aina ya matatizo maishani.
Mwaka 1979 alipewa Tuzo ya Nobel ya Amani.
Mama Teresa aliaga dunia tarehe 5 Septemba 1997 akafanyiwa mazishi ya kitaifa.

Baada ya kifo chake maandishi yake yaliyotolewa hadharani yakafichua siri ya maisha yake ya ndani, yaani kwamba alipitia kwa karibu miaka 50 mfululizo katika hali ngumu inayoitwa usiku wa roho, bila ya hiyo kuweza kumzuia atabasamu muda wote.
